Motiva Enterprises, LLC, is a 50-50 joint venture between
Shell Oil Company (the American wholly owned subsidiary of
Royal Dutch Shell) and
Saudi Refining (a wholly owned subsidiary of
Aramco Services Company, which itself is a wholly owned subsidiary of
Saudi Aramco). The company is currently headquartered in
Houston, Texas.
Motiva Enterprises posted revenue of $24 billion during fiscal 2004.
History
Motiva Enterprises had it roots in a prior joint venture between Texaco Refining and Marketing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Texaco, Inc. (when it was an independent company) and Saudi Refining (SRI). This joint venture was founded January 1, 1989 and called Star Enterprise. It owned and operated refineries at Port Arthur, TX, Convent, LA, and Delaware City, DE plus oil product transportation and marketing facilities in the southeastern U.S.
On July 1, 1998, Motiva Enterprises was formed as a joint venture between Star Enterprise and Shell Oil. In 2001, Texaco was purchased by Chevron. On February 12, 2002, Texaco sold its interest in Motiva to Shell, with SRI retaining its interest.
Operations
Motiva Enterprises owns and operates three
oil refineries in the
gulf coast region of the
United States: a 275,000
bpd refinery in
Port Arthur, Texas, a 225,000
bpd refinery in
Convent, Louisiana, and a 240,000
bpd refinery in
Norco, Louisiana. Currently, Motiva has plans to expand its Port Arthur refinery to a capacity of 600,000
bpd.
Motiva's products include
diesel,
petrol,
LPG (liquid petroleum gas), aviation fuel, and lubricants which it supplies to American states in the South, Mid-atlantic, and the Northeast. Marketing outlets include 7600 Shell-branded service stations. Storage and Distribution terminals number 42.
